A day in the life of senior media planner/buyer Joe Wilk.

This month, we’re diving into a typical day for Joe Wilk, our senior media planner and buyer.

Senior Media Planner/Buyer Joe Wilk starting his morning by waking up his daughter and eating breakfast.

My day starts with waking up at 6:15 a.m., getting ready for work, and waking up my 11-year-old daughter, Claire. Then I take the dogs out, feed them, and eat breakfast with Claire while watching her favorite cartoon.

Joe checking his computer, driving Claire to school, and grabbing a coffee mug from his collection.

I work remotely from my home in Kansas City, so I get my computer on at 7:30 a.m. to check my to-do list and calendar. After a quick drive to get Claire to school, I’m back home grabbing a coffee mug from our large collection and getting to work.

Joe on a video call, sending dozens of emails, and looking closely at campaign performance.

Most mornings consist of meetings with teammates and clients to collaborate on campaigns and media strategies, emailing with media vendors, and checking campaign performance.

Joe working out in his garage and then eating lunch while changing the channel to sports in his living room.

Over the noon hour I usually get a quick workout in our garage gym, then eat lunch while catching up on TV sports news.

Joe switching between multiple tasks and meetings then leaving work to walk the dogs and spend time with his wife and daughter.

The afternoon is more collaboration with my team and clients to make sure campaigns and strategies are on track: meetings, flowcharts, invoice approvals, monthly reports, and checking industry news and trends — with a quick break to pick up Claire from school.

End of the day! I’ve prioritized my to-do list for tomorrow; now I’m off for some quality time with my wife, Lauren, a bit of dog walking, Claire’s soccer practice, dinner, and relaxing.
