After nearly 25 incredible years with 2RM, the time has come for me to step down and begin the next chapter of my life — retirement and embracing my new title of grandfather. I’m excited for this step, but I’m also filled with mixed emotions.

I started working almost 50 years ago in the corn fields of Iowa when I was 13 years old. Then I worked in a grocery store in junior high school and continued that job until I graduated from college. After graduation, I spent nearly 16 years crunching numbers in public accounting.

In November of 1999, I began planning the launch of Two Rivers Marketing with the two men who would become my partners in this endeavor. It was a huge risk for this conservative accountant and my family, but ultimately one of the best decisions I ever made. Taking this leap challenged me to step into a new kind of leadership, pushing me to grow in ways I never anticipated. Leadership often demands that we step outside our comfort zones, take bold risks, and embrace the challenges that come with growth. It’s important to remember that sometimes it’s the bold leaps we take that pave the way for ourselves and others. Because of this I am a better person today.

Leadership means inspiring and guiding others towards a common goal. As a leader, I knew my actions and responses set the tone for my team and helped shape the culture of our company. Employees looked to me for direction, support, and motivation, especially during challenging times. I always felt it was important to lead by example, communicate effectively, and show empathy and integrity in my decisions.

I have also learned that leading people isn’t just about work; it’s about caring for them as individuals. We don’t always know the weight our team members are carrying personally, but as leaders, we need to be there and create a space where they feel supported. True leadership is about building trust, leading with compassion and integrity, and prioritizing the people behind the work.

Over the years, I learned that there will be good days and bad days, but now at the end of my career, what I’ll remember most is the people. The friendships, the shared experiences, and the sense of community we have built together are what truly matter.

Reflecting on our journey together, I am immensely proud of what we have achieved. Our successes are a testament to hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment. Many of you reading this have played a vital role in our accomplishments, and for that I am deeply grateful.

I have cherished every moment spent working alongside such a talented and passionate team. The challenges we faced, the milestones we reached, and the camaraderie we built will always hold a special place in my heart. As I move on to new adventures, I am confident 2RM will continue to reach even greater heights. Our agency’s innovation, resilience, and teamwork will be the foundation of future successes for 2RM and for our clients.

To my colleagues, my friends, and our 2RM client partners — thank you for your support and your trust and for making these years so memorable. I will always treasure the friendships and memories we have created together.

Wishing you all the very best for the future.
